3 Reasons To Consider An Assisted Living Facility For Your Aging Loved One

Blog

Seeing someone you love age and decline in health can be very discouraging. Someone who might have taken care of you when you were younger is now in need of constant help and care. Although you may want to provide that care for your loved one, it is important to know when it is time for an assisted living facility. Putting your loved one in a facility can protect both of you and can improve the quality of life for your loved one. Here are a couple signs that you need to consider assisted living.

1. Your Loved One Is Becoming Emotionally and Physically Unstable

As many people get older they will begin to have personality changes and become restricted in what they can physically do. For example, your loved one may become emotional, even suicidal, or act out in aggression towards others. This is very common for people who are suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease. If you feel like your loved one is not in control of their emotions, they need assisted living.

Second, if you feel like your loved one is not stable on their feet, you need to seek out around the clock care for their protection. If your loved one is not able to safely get up and down the stairs on their own, put their own shoes on, or carry small items throughout the house, they may need more care than you can provide.

2. Your Loved One Is Failing To Care For Their Basic Needs

Another sign is that the individual is failing to care for their basic needs. For instance, if your loved one is wearing pajamas all day because getting dressed is too hard, they may need to be admitted to an assisted living. Some people aren't able to get themselves a simple snack or drinks or go to the restroom without needing help. For their safety and comfort, it is important they are where they have the help that they need.

3. You Are Feeling Overwhelmed and Resentful Toward Your Loved One

Lastly, you need to assess your feelings. Are you becoming resentful toward your loved one? Do you feel so overwhelmed with their care that you are depressed or unhappy? If that is the case, then you should consider an assisted living facility. Both of you will be happier and will salvage your relationship by allowing someone else to care for their needs.

These are just a couple reasons to start looking into an assisted living program, such as at Orchard Park

Exploring The Assisted Living Facility Options

Hello, I am Dylan. When my remaining grandparent injured his hip, I was determined to help him achieve the best possible outcome. I knew the risks of letting him live alone in his house, so I offered to move in. He was adamant that I stay in my home, which inspired me to take him to visit assisted living facilities to help him remain living on his own without the risks. The assisted living units were perfect for his needs and we found one quickly. I want to use this site to help other people identify ideal assisted living facilities for themselves or their loved ones. Thank you for visiting my site.
